Growing up in the 80s and 90s, people would make fun of therapy or self-help with dismissive comments like, “Getting in touch with your inner child, eh?” I didn’t know whether the “inner child” was a serious concept or a new-agey trope or just a stereotype about what therapy and psychology were all about.
